Andy Summers honoured by Royal Scottish Academy
Our Co-director, Andy Summers has been elected as an Honorary Academician at the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture - the highest honour the Academy can bestow.
Elected for his “distinguished contribution to and celebration of the Scottish urban landscape,” Andy joins other current Honorary Academicians such as Sir David Chipperfield and performance artist Marina Abramovic. Past recipients also include Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, French Impressionist Edgar Degas, and American photojournalist Eve Arnold.
The Royal Scottish Academy is an independent membership-led organisation, of which comprises 120 Academicians elected by their peers, in the disciplines of art and architecture. The Academy also elects Honorary Academicians (HRSA) who are distinguished figures—often artists, architects, writers, or cultural leaders—who are elected in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the arts or to the promotion of art and architecture.
The appointment of HRSA's enables the Academy to connect to a wider artistic and civic community, reflecting the breadth of contemporary creative practice across Scotland and beyond.
Joining Andy in this appointment is Professor Ian Ritchie CBE; an architect, artist, writer and poet, as well as Neal Ascherson; a writer and journalist on politics, culture and archaeology.
Please join us in congratulating Andy on this huge achievement!
