At Anderson Bell & Christie, we are driven by a passion for understanding how people engage with architecture and the spaces they inhabit. As architects and designers, we strive to create environments that reflect the needs and experiences of the community.
In collaboration with Capability Scotland and WAVEparticle, we hosted a series of workshops with secondary school students and Capability Scotland customers to explore their views on what an inclusive and empowering environment looks like. These sessions fostered meaningful dialogue, allowing communities to influence the spaces they occupy, while providing designers with valuable insights to create more accessible and inclusive environments.
To deepen our understanding, we asked participants: “What does an inclusive and enabling environment mean to you?” Their responses were captured live through drawings and photography, offering a visual representation of their collective vision.
The insights from these workshops will culminate in an exhibition focused on placemaking and inclusive design. It will showcase how empowering communities to shape their own environments can lead to spaces that are not only more inclusive but also more attuned to the diverse needs of those who live in them.
